Noyemberyan State College is on track to become energy-independent thanks to the collaboration of Shtigen Group and Telcell Company. A 24.6 kW solar plant and a 300-liter solar water heater will cover the institution’s energy requirements for many years to come.

The project will also provide the college with instructional solar water heaters, didactic tools, safety measures for working at heights, and other teaching resources. This program seeks to advance the growth of the renewable energy industry at the school.

In 2022, Shtigen Group and Telcell signed a cooperation memorandum under which Telcell, a leader in the financial sector, contributed 7.4 million AMD to the “Sunrise in Artsakh” project. The goal was to assist Martuni’s vocational school in making the full transition to renewable energy. Unfortunately, the project could not be completed due to well-known circumstances.

Over the past year, various options were considered to ensure the funds served their intended purpose. The two companies ultimately opted to focus on Noyemberyan State College’s energy independence, with an educational component added.

Noyemberyan College offers over a dozen vocational programs, including renewable energy. According to college director Karen Nazaryan, the professional laboratory will be renovated, the material and technical base will be upgraded, and computer equipment will be purchased using the 2 million AMD saved annually through energy cost reductions. The school also plans to offer scholarships to high-performing students.

“The continuation of this strategic project is critical, regardless of the hurdles. To address our country’s energy concerns, we must work together and go forward without hesitation. I’m delighted to see companies like Telcell that value social responsibility and appreciate the need of energy stability,” said Hayk Shekyan, Shtigen Group’s founding director.

The “Sunrise” project is part of Shtigen Group’s corporate national responsibility initiative, which aims to achieve energy independence in Armenia by prioritizing border settlements with solar technology.

Moreover, donations to the SUNRISE project can be made via Telcell terminals or the Telcell Wallet app.

“For the past 17 years, we have supported national programs that benefit the Armenian people. We urge other companies to invest in assisting Noyemberyan State College attain energy independence through solar technology. “This will open up numerous opportunities for students,” said Artyom Ghazaryan, CEO of Telcell.
