“The Severe and Dangerous Consequences of Legislative Changes in the Solar Sector on Industry Development and Armenia’s Economy”
Energy transition is not a future ambition but a present necessity. Armenia has taken the first step, and now we must accelerate our efforts by acting smarter and with purpose. Through this series of posts, I will try to present how we can collectively promote the transition to clean energy. The time is now.
Like many countries, Armenia stands at a critical crossroads: should we hesitate or accelerate the energy transition?
This is, in fact, a false dilemma. If we seriously address reducing strategic dependencies, building a competitive economy, and preserving the democratic foundations of our society—which are fundamentally important for real progress—then the answer is clear: we must act faster and smarter.
Armenia has already taken important steps toward a clean energy future. The next challenge is to institutionalize and scale these achievements.
But time is not on our side. The window of opportunity is narrowing. The government and business leaders must be decisive and collaborative.
At this moment, we have two priorities:
- Widespread deployment of energy storage—from households to large industrial systems. Thanks to innovations and economies of scale (for example, in China), energy storage is now more affordable and accessible than ever before.
- Modernization of regulated tariffs to better align energy consumption with solar energy production and to make energy use more efficient and intelligent.
Armenia is not facing a choice about whether to transition, because we have already done so. Now we must decide how quickly we can build a sustainable, independent, and future-oriented economy.
